As we move out of Michigan’s frigid winter season and toward the warmer temperatures of spring, layers become less heavy, bulky and bundled, and more relaxed, light and transitional. But we all know that Michigan weather is simply unpredictable. So dressing for the weather this time of year can be a challenge. Below are a few ways to incorporate transitional layers into your look, no matter what Mother Nature brings our way.
Since we’re in a transitional period, shopping for new pieces is tricky right now. However, this is the perfect time to take advantage of sales and pre-spring, which will help spark a little magic into your wardrobe. For example, now is a great time to shop coats at amazing deals. A good, stylish coat is always a necessary component in any wardrobe. I’m loving this this long line shearling aviator coat from Bird Bee in Detroit, which is currently on sale.
To add a fashion-forward vibe to a layered outfit, opt for a denim jacket or a fun blazer underneath your coat. This adds an unexpected, edgy element to your look. Finish off your layers with a casual, cool graphic tee, which is a staple in my wardrobe and should be in yours, too. You can find fun, local graphics at Definitive Style Exclusive, SMPLFD, Detroit Vs Everybody or the one I’m wearing is from Detroit is the New Black.
Lastly, complete your look with a great pair of denim. I chose to incorporate these L’agence highline distressed jeans from the latest spring collection at INTERMIX. They really top off my casual, edgy, city vibe look and demonstrate how easily you can start incorporating spring pieces into your transitional layered looks.
