The Detroit History Club hosted The Suffragette’s Ball on March 9 celebrating the 100th anniversary of Michigan’s ratification of the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote. The Detroit History Club organized an elaborate event at the Detroit Yacht Club featuring activities from a century ago such as cigar rolling, derby racing and gaming tables. Guests heard tunes from the era, as a 20-piece jazz band played in the grand ballroom, and enjoyed libations from a prohibition-themed bar. Guests also dressed for the occasion in full 1919 glamour. A portion of the proceeds benefited The League of Women Voters Education Fund that helps to register voters and share voting information.
