By Amy Gill
In honor of Mother’s Day and SEEN’s Women’s Issue, we have rounded up a few of our favorite Mother’s Day gift ideas from local, women-owned businesses. Show Mom how much she means to you with a meaningful gift that supports other women and mothers running businesses in Metro Detroit.
Luxury Spa Gift Set
Founded by Holly Rutt and her husband, Justin, Little Flower Soap Co. makes small-batch, body care items that are all natural and smell amazing. We especially love this spa gift set full of great items to pamper yourself with soap, bath salt lavender, muscle rescue balm, candle + matchbook, bath bomb, and 3 lip balms displayed beautifully in a premium gift box and tied with a grosgrain ribbon.
EDITORS NOTE: We mistakenly used the wrong picture of the Luxury Spa Gift Set in our May issue. The gift set pictured was the Gardeners Gift Set, $24 available at littleflowersoap.com.

Multi-ball Choker Necklace
Liz Guz and her daughter Lauren founded Ella Designs in 2013 to help find a cure for bipolar disorder. Ella Designs donates 50 percent of profits from their custom-designed jewelry to the Heinz C. Prechter Bipolar Research Program and the University of Michigan Depression Center. This multi-ball choker with magnetic closure comes in black, gunmetal, bronze, silver or matte-gold tone and will good with anything!
The Harper Leather Backpack
Rebecca Smith founded the custom handbag company Better Life Bags in Hamtramck, which gives jobs to local women who are underemployed due to language or financial barriers. Today, in addition to the create-your-own custom feature, there are many ready made styles available along with accessories, jewelry and toys. Our favorite is the Harper backpack in the perfect shade of cognac leather. It might be the greatest backpack ever created for women on the go.
Paula & Chlo was founded by Paula Slof in her Franklin home. Paula launched her e-commerce storefront featuring her favorite luxury essentials — fashion basics, designer cashmere, boutique handbags and more. And in case you are wondering, Chlo is her dog!
Inspirational Makeup Pouch
Kari Hughes founded Buy The Change, an e-commerce social enterprise that provides living wages to women living in poverty around the world through the sale of the goods they create. We particularly love this makeup pouch featuring the wise words of Glinda the Good Witch, ‘You’ve Always Had the Power Dear’!
