Meet SEEN’s Pet of the Week: Kramer, a Labrador Retriever from Birmingham.
By Alana Blumenstein
Breed: Labrador Retriever
Owners: Martin and Stacey Belki
1. Where did you meet your owner?
I was born at a breeder’s house in White Lake, Michigan. My doggie mom had seven puppies (including me). My human family had the first pick of the litter. They came to visit all of us puppies when we were 6 weeks old. I had a red ribbon around my neck. It was love at first sight. Plus, they loved the smell of my puppy breath, and mom said my paws smelled like corn chips. They thought I had the best temperament of the bunch. I was such a lover and good snuggler, yet I had the confidence to go explore on my own. I was also kind to my litter mates. Sorry for expanding, my favorite subject after treats is me!
2. What is your favorite place to go on a walk?
I love to go on walks anywhere at any time. I live in Birmingham, and I especially like to walk around the town there because I get so much attention. Everyone comments on how handsome I am. In the summer, I snuck in the fountain a few times to cool off, but don’t tell anyone.
3. What is your favorite toy?
I love stuffed animals. Mom and dad have to buy me a special brand that are supposed to be “indestructible.” I love to try and get the stuffing out, and I usually succeed. My very favorite toy is my blue fish. He is missing a few gills, but that just makes him extra special to me.
4. What is your go-to store in Metro Detroit?
The store I go to most often is Premier Pet Supply. I love walking around the store and seeing all the people and the animals. At the checkout, I put my paws up on the counter, and the staff can’t help but given me a bunch of treats; it’s so much fun. I have been known to help myself to a few treats on the lower shelves as well.
5. What is your favorite treat?
Hmm…This is a tough question because I am a lab, and we love to eat. I love eating anything that my human family is eating. Sometimes I don’t have the best manners, and I counter surf to see what’s for dinner. When I was getting trained, my parents fed me hot dogs as I am extremely food motivated, so I guess that would probably one of my favorite foods. That being said, I really don’t discriminate. In fact, I have been known to eat plenty of non-food items as well — toilet paper is an all time favorite.
6. Where is the best place to get groomed?
Having a bath isn’t my favorite activity. Thankfully, I don’t have the sort of hair that needs grooming. When I get really stinky, mom and dad have taken me to a doggie self wash. In the summer, they give me a bath in my personal swimming pool.
7. Do you have a hidden talent or skill?
My hidden talent is my ability to give the best hugs. I jump up on my hind legs and then place my paws on the shoulders of my humans; it is actually very cute. I’m so affectionate.
8. What do you like about your owner the most?
Oh boy, this is a tough one as I adore my owners. I have a mom, dad and two sisters (they are twins). I love knowing that I am as much a part of the family as everyone else is. They make me feel so special and so loved. I get so many kisses each day; I haven’t even learned to count that high yet. I love knowing that they are as excited to see me as I am to see them when they get home.
9. What is the last thing you got in trouble for?
Well…I am often naughty, but it is always with the best of intentions. Today, I had to sit in my crate while my sister finished eating breakfast because I stole her waffle, so mom made her another one, but somehow that one made it into my mouth as well. This afternoon when dad wasn’t looking, I went into my sister’s room and stole some items I should’ve have taken. I blame dad for that though because it was his job to keep his eyes on me!
10. Who is your favorite dog account to follow on Instagram?
I don’t follow any one dog in particular on Instagram, although I bet if I set up an account I could get some followers of my own. I do follow @K9TurboTraining on Instagram because they helped to train me to be the awesome dog that I am. They use only positive reinforcement which means lots and lots of treats!
