1. Loiza in The Belt

Located between Broadway and Library Street in downtown Detroit

Inspired by the culture of Barrio Loiza in Puerto Rico, the Loiza installation by Carlos Rolón, located in The Belt in downtown Detroit, includes several components such as ceramic tiles, a garden made of cinderblock and artificial flowers, handcrafted macrame plant hangers and palm trees. Not only does the installation make for the perfect photo opp, but during the weekends in the summer, you can grab a drink from the bar and escape to your own little slice of paradise in the middle of the city.

2. Lost River

This rum-focused tiki bar located on Detroit’s east side has more to offer than just its Instagramable cocktails that come in “cool mugs.” From rotating guest chefs, pop-ups and food trucks, you’ll come for the drinks, but stay for the food and the tropical atmosphere.

3. Deluxx Fluxx

Go “below the belt” (literally) in downtown Detroit, to check out this underground bar that features an arcade space (super Instgrammable as well!), delicious cocktails and the most notorious room of them all, the blacklight room. Located on the back side of the Music Hall Center for Performing Arts, the Stevie Wonder mural, by artist Richard Wilson, stands 100 feet tall and does not go unnoticed. Fully commissioned by Wilson himself, he estimates the mural to cost $10,000! Like they always say, “do it for the gram!”

The newly opened breakfast, lunch and dinner spot is located on the second floor of the Siren Hotel and offers a nostalgic experience created by chef Kate Williams. On the menu you can find classics such as spaghetti and meatballs, a grilled cheese sandwich and a freshly baked cinnamon roll (SOLD!). With a 1940s flare and serious attention to detail, you’ll have no problem capturing the perfect Instagram photo at this movie-like diner.
