Check out just a few of the great places to shop local in Metro Detroit this weekend for Shop Small Saturday.
By Amy Gill
As exciting as the deals at big box retailers are on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, this is a time of year when it is important to shop small. The hardworking independently-owned retailers, business owners and makers in Metro Detroit are what makes this area such a wonderful place to live. What’s more, they reintroduce our shopping dollars right back into our own local economy.
So really, it’s a win-win. Now, get out there this weekend and get your shop small on!
Downtown Detroit Markets at Cadillac Square
The Downtown Detroit Markets at Cadillac Square feature 18 small businesses that sell specialty apparel, accessories, jewelry, bath products, home décor, children’s toys, pet goods, books and snacks. They are all housed in Cadillac Square which is decked out for the holidays, and just steps away from ice skating at the Campus Martius rink, and all of the other great shopping destinations in downtown Detroit area. We are especially crushing on Dose Detroit which carries a bunch of local and emerging fashion and lifestyle brands and Coup D’etat full of high fashion finds you can’t get anywhere else around.
There are also great places to shop in Detroit beyond Downtown! From cool ties and other artsy stuff at Cyberoptix to the very best vintage and boho finds at El Dorado General Store and the entire Avenue of Fashion on Livernois! Check out the full list of participating retailers and see what awesome deals they are offering. You can also read more about playing #ShopSmall Detroit Bingo, from November 27 through December 24, where you have a chance to win Detroit Spirit gift card!

Ferndale is fabulous! Having lived there for most of my 20’s and early 30’s, it will always hold a special place in my heart. Filled with some of my go-to brunch spots Toast and the Emory, but also with great places to shop small and local, at Rustbelt Market, Elaine B Jewelry, and Green Daffodil. Read more about where to go and what to do in our Ferndale City Guide, or check out the entire list of retailers and restaurants here.
