Louise Jones: An Emerging Artist SEEN in Detroit

Louise Jones, known as Ouizi, is renown for her floral murals on buildings around Detroit and the world. The 2018 Movement Detroit Artist-in-Residence tells SEEN about her art influences.

1. How long have you been in Detroit?

Since 2014.

2. How would you describe yourself in a sentence?

A Chinese firecracker.

3. What age did you start doing art?

Formally since middle school.

6. Where do you find inspiration?

The natural and the supernatural.

7. What’s one of your favorite pieces you’ve made?

A very red 5-by-5 foot painting on cradled wood panel.

12. Do you have any upcoming shows?

I will be in a show with several other contemporary artists, shown alongside works by Georgia O’Keeffe, at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art in Arkansas. I will also be in a group show in Janice Charach Gallery at the Jewish Community Center in West Bloomfield this fall.

13. What’s something others may not know about you?

I play the ukulele sometimes!
