Johnny’s Yelevator Cocktail Recipe

September 11, 2018

Mitch Nigl, bar manager of the speakeasy Johnny’s in Royal Oak, shares a spin on an old cocktail called a ‘puff.’

By Mitch Nigl

The Yelevator is a take on an old cocktail called a “puff.” The combination of the cream and the soda water create the “puff.” The flavor profile is an herbal, creamy, slightly sweet, gin and tonic, with hints of dill and cucumber.

2 ounces Citadelle Gin

3/4 ounce Yellow Chartreuse

½ ounce tonic syrup

½ ounce heavy cream

¼ ounce lemon oleo

2 slices cucumber

2 sprigs dill

Muddle the dill and cucumber in a cocktail shaker. Add the rest of the ingredients into the shaker and fill the shaker 3/4 full of ice. Shake vigorously for 8 to 10 seconds, and then double strain (with a Hawthorne strainer and a tea strainer) the contents of the shaker into a 9-ounce glass. Top with sparkling water (we use Topo Chico at Johnny’s). Garnish with a marigold flower and a dill sprig.
