With Michigan being ranked fifth in the nation in the number of breweries, it is not surprising that Ann Arbor has seen an explosion in new breweries as well.
Homes Brewery on the west side of Ann Arbor has a certain something that makes it stand out. You see this as soon as you walk up to the brewery when you are met with roaring fires in fire pits. Despite visiting on a very cold night, the outdoor scene was vibrant and welcoming. I was hoping that they might sell s’more kits to complement my beer selection.
Inside the place was packed with small and large parties, families and singles, yet we were able to find a seat. Guests order their beer and food before sitting down, which ensures efficient service.
With a revolving series of taps that feature a variety of beers, currently heavy on IPAs and cream ales, there is always a charity tap, where $1 from every pour goes to a charity of the week. Bonus points in my book — giving back to the community while having a beer, yes please!
Homes Brewery also has a great selection of liquor from the Ann Arbor Distilling Company and a featured cocktail on the menu. Speaking of menu, the food is top notch. Heavily influenced by Asian flavors, the Bulgogi Fries are perfection in a bowl and plenty to share. The Bao Buns and the bowls are delicious and something you would expect to find in an upscale restaurant.
Homes Brewery is a great find tucked into a busy intersection, but worth the visit the next time you are on that side of town.
