Stevie Soul and Nicole New team up for a fresh take on classic holiday tunes with their song “A Jazzy Christmas”
By Perry Haselden
We all have that one Christmas song that stirs up joyful feelings and gets us in the holiday spirit. This year, two Detroit musicians — beatboxer Stevie Soul (learn more about his work in our recent feature on him here!) and jazz vocalist Nicole New — are sharing their first collaboration, “A Jazzy Christmas,” inspired by their favorite holiday tunes. Mixing their unique voices with smooth rhythms by guitarist Matt LoRusso, Soul and New beautifully combine a collection of classic songs like “Santa Baby” and “Jingle Bell Rock” into a memorable mash-up.
While the holidays may look different for most this year, Soul and New hope their music helps to make the season a little brighter. “Recording a holiday medley is something we both always wanted to do,” says Soul. “Even though this year feels a lot different, the music has this nostalgia about it and takes us right back to that special feeling we all get around this time of year.”
