Launched on July 24, BLKOUT Walls Mural Festival is taking place in Detroit’s North End neighborhood through this Saturday. Founded by local artist Sydney G. James, Denver-based artist Thomas “Detour” Evans, and Max Sansing of Chicago, this family-friendly, week-long event has brought together 20 artists from across the U.S. to paint one-of-a-kind outdoor murals with the goal of bringing awareness and arts-based economic development to the North End community. The event will wrap with a block party on July 31, starting at 12:00pm at the Chroma Building, 2937 East Grand Boulevard.

Throw on your swimsuit, grab your sunnies, and head to Second Best for their annual Pool Party. Make a reservation for you and 5 of your pals ($150 total) to splash around in your own take-home kiddie pool (that’s right — you get to keep it), a cooler full of cocktails, pool toys, and a bucket of beer. The party starts at 1:00 pm this Sunday with DJ Bach Troy supplying the party tunes.
