Football-Themed Cocktails for Your Next Tailgate

Kick off your game-day celebrations this season with festive, football-themed drinks created by cocktail expert Lauren Daniels

Tailgating — like most things — looks a lot different this year. But that doesn’t mean football season can’t be fun. Be the life of the (socially distant) party with these tasty game-winning cocktails (plus a mocktail!).

1st and 10

Start the game off right with a delectable martini.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ oz. Vodka
  • ½ oz. Lemon Juice
  • ½ oz. Simple Syrup
  • 5 Basil Leaves

Directions:

In your shaker, muddle 2 basil leaves. Next, add ice, vodka, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Shake and strain into martini glass. Garnish with lemon wedge and remaining basil leaves.

Honolulu Blue Margarita

Named for the Detroit Lions’ signature color.

Ingredients: 

  • 1 ½ oz. Tequila
  • 1 oz. Blue Gatorade
  • ½ oz. Blue Curacao
  • ½ oz. Triple Sec
  • ¼ oz. Agave Nectar
  • ¼ oz. Lime Juice
  • Kosher Salt for Rimming (optional)

Directions:

In your shaker with ice, add tequila, blue Gatorade, blue Curacao, triple sec, agave nectar and lime juice. Shake and pour into glass over ice.

Megatron Old Fashioned

Pay homage to former Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson with this perfect fall cocktail.

Ingredients: 

  • 1 ½ oz. Bourbon or Whiskey
  • 1 oz. Apple Cider
  • ½ oz. Simple Syrup
  • 2 dashes Bitters
  • Apple Chunks
  • Cinnamon

Directions:

In your shaker with ice, add bourbon or whiskey, apple cider, simple syrup, and bitters. Shake and pour into glass with whiskey stone or 1 ice cube. Garnish with apple chunks and cinnamon.

Celebration Sangria

Toast to touchdowns with this smooth sangria.

Ingredients: 

  • 2-3 Peaches, sliced
  • 1 Lemon, sliced
  • 1 Apple, sliced
  • ¾ Cup of Apricot Brandy
  • 4 Cups Peach Juice
  • ½ Cup Orange Liqueur
  • 1 – 750ml Bottle Prosecco

Directions: 

In pitcher, add sliced peaches, lemon, and apple. Next, add apricot brandy, peach juice, orange liqueur. Refrigerate until chilled or overnight for best results. When ready to serve, top with Prosecco. Serve in glass over ice.

Virgin Celebration Pho-gria

All the fun without the booze!

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 Peaches, sliced
  • 1 Lemon, sliced
  • 1 Apple, sliced
  • 5 Cups Peach Juice
  • 1 Liter Ginger ale

Directions:

In pitcher, add sliced peaches, lemon, and apple. Next, peach juice, orange liqueur. Refrigerate until chilled. When ready to serve, top with ginger ale. Serve in glass over ice.
