The Detroit area is full of entrepreneurs, doers, makers and people who want to be in charge of their own destiny. They are building their own businesses, working on their own terms. But that doesn’t mean the entrepreneurs of Detroit don’t need a little help. Enter Excelerate America. This company, founded in 2017, that already helps small businesses and entrepreneurs interact, connect and grow is going one step further. They are challenging entrepreneurs in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties to share why they feel a special connection to Detroit for a chance to win one of three $500 prize packs including tools and resources to help them be more productive — and grow their businesses.
“Detroit has such a wonderful communal energy and vibe,” said Leslie Youngblood, Senior Creative Director, Excelerate America. “It’s been even more obvious since COVID. Everyone wants everyone else to succeed.” Excelerate America’s mission is to help small businesses grow. They also collaborate with Dell Technologies, a company that provides technology to companies and individuals, and also understands how important small businesses are to the fabric of our communities and overall economy.
The giveaway, which is in partnership with Dell Technologies and Robert Courtney & Associates, is seeking entrepreneurs who represent the small business owner lifestyle in the Detroit area. They want to hear from entrepreneurs who are showing up, hustling and helping others.
And the three that are randomly chosen will get a $500 prize pack that includes:
- A month-long coworking membership at Bea’s Detroit, TechTown Detroit or Bamboo Detroit
- A Dell Mobile Adapter Speakerphone, an all-in-one connectivity and conferencing solution
- A Brand Strategy Session with Robert Courtney, founder of Robert Courtney and Associates
The winners will also be featured in a nationally-distributed Excelerate America owner feature.
Robert Courtney said he’s proud to be a part of this partnership. Courtney said he appreciates the technology Dell has to offer, especially the Dell XPS 13 2-in-1 laptop and the Mobile Adapter Speakerphone. With these tools, Courtney — who works out of the coworking space Bamboo Detroit — can use the laptop for presentations, as a whiteboard and to create podcasts. He can also edit and update websites and manage multiple business accounts.
“It’s amazing technology,” he said. “These are really cool tools to have.”
Youngblood said Excelerate America wanted to put together the giveaway because they want to give back to the hard-working entrepreneur community — especially in light of the challenges that were presented by the pandemic.
She said the hope is that entrepreneurs can use the prize pack to be more productive and also make connections locally and nationally through the Excelerate America network and exposure.
“This is just one way we can help,” Youngblood said. “We are really proud to work with this extraordinary group of people. Every person, every entrepreneur, has an amazing story. We want to be a part of helping them thrive and prosper.”
Courtney said he’s excited to do branding sessions with the three winners. He will analyze their businesses and use that information to come up with ways to reach their goals and objectives. In addition, he and his team will review the social media accounts of the winners and look to see what works, what doesn’t and how to use social media to come up with a strategy to generate sales and leads, have conversations or bring in more fans and followers.
“We know this can help a small business that might not be in a place to fund these types of things,” Courtney said. “We want to help get these entrepreneurs to where they want to go.”
