The Kindred Music & Culture Festival
August 10, 2019 @ 12:00 PM - 10:30 PM EDT
The festival will take place Saturday, August 10th from 12pm-10:30pm at Roosevelt Park in Detroit and will kick-off with a free 9 am yoga class. This first-of-its kind event is a reflection of the spirited talent birthed in Detroit. The vision for the festival emerged as a response to young Black talent.
The goal for Kindred Fest is to foster a space where Black creatives can be showcased as well as celebrated for their contributions to the city. Each artist was hand selected based on their notability and prominence in Detroit’s new music scene. The lineup for this festival was meticulously constructed to produce a great time for all patrons.
This year’s festival is special as Kindred has taken a different approach to its lineup. Instead of focusing on a headliner, Kindred is using a “grassroots approach.” “I wanted to really hone in on up-and-coming artists in Detroit,” says Leah Hill, Founder of Kindred Media and Entertainment, “What is unique about my Festival is that you cannot get genuine Detroit sound anywhere else and an entire festival dedicated to artists whose roots are in the city makes it that much more exciting.”
The Kindred Fest will feature key sponsors, one of which is the Detroit Pistons, who will be hosting a 3-point basketball contest during the event. Attendees can also look forward to enjoying cocktails curated by Avion Tequila, Martell VS and Jameson Whiskey. “The Kindred team is so grateful for all of our sponsors. Prestige Cadillac, Avis Ford Dealership and Street CREDit are just a few to name in making this event possible.” says Hill. Participants will also be able to enjoy local businesses, as there are many notable vendors such as Detroit is the New Black, Sprezzatura Art Collective and more.
