Beyond Classical: Black History Month concert with Grammy nominee Jannina Norpoth & Jason Amos String Ensemble
February 29 @ 8:00 PM - 10:30 PM EST$50
Palmer Woods Music in Homes celebrates Black History Month with a sensational string ensemble, extraordinary music and soulfood-inspired dinner — in a magnificent 1927 Tudor filled with an extensive museum-quality collection of African-American art. Grammy-nominated violinist Jannina Barefield Norpoth returns to her hometown with musical partners violist Jason Amos, and bassist/husband John-Paul Norpoth to join world-acclaimed guitarist/composer A. Spencer Barefield (her dad!). Enjoy magical music, merging European Classical with American Classical (jazz and music of the African diaspora), and sounds exploring new, imaginative terrain.
Jannina is a member of Grammy-nominated PUBLIQuartet (PQ), the 2016-17 Artists-in-Residence at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and Chamber Music America’s 2019 Visionary Artists. She made her debut as a soloist with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra at age 14 and since then has built a career as an innovative collaborative artist, performer, arranger and educator. She has been featured alongside numerous Classical stars, as well as acclaimed musicians from multiple musical genres, including James Carter, Nadia Sirota, Regina Carter, Marcus Belgrave, Jay – Z, Beyoncé, Pharell, Stevie Wonder, Anita Baker, My Brightest Diamond, and many others. With PQ, she has performed at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, The National Gallery, the Detroit Jazz Festival and Newport Jazz Festival, Detroit Institute of Arts, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, and throughout the U.S. To read about the other musicians: palmerwoods.org
Throughout the year, we honor the myriad of accomplishments of African-American and other world-class composers, musicians and artists with monthly concerts of jazz, classical, blues and world music in Palmer Woods, each in a different historic home, mansion, or garden (in the warmer months). Tickets: $50 can be purchased online at palmerwoodsmusicinhomes2020.eventbrite.com or by calling 313-891-2514.
