Quaint, quirky, eclectic, artsy, charming, welcoming… all are words commonly used to describe Downtown Berkley. So what’s all the buzz about?

With its small-town vibe, artistic flair, and mid-century ambiance, Downtown Berkley truly sets itself apart from surrounding cities and has become a destination for shoppers, foodies and art enthusiasts alike.

Downtown Berkley is beckoning. If you haven’t checked it out, here’s why you should…

One-of-aKind Shops and Restaurants with Character and Cool Charm

What truly sets Downtown Berkley apart from other destinations is the focus on independent retailers that collectively deliver an enchanting, eclectic shopping experience. The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) prides itself on seeking out and supporting merchants who offer novel and creative gifts, unique and fun home accessories and distinctive apparel for men, women and children. With more than 55 one-of-a-kind independently-owned small businesses, the shopping experience is extraordinary, every time.

Two easily accessible commercial districts lined with some of the area’s best small businesses make up Berkley’s vibrant downtown. One district sits at 12 Mile Road between Coolidge Highway and Greenfield Road, and the other on Coolidge Highway between 11 Mile Road and 12 Mile Road. Not many cities offer two downtown destinations packed with varied and diverse dining and shopping options — but Downtown Berkley does it brilliantly.

Warm, Personal Experiences

Upon entering a shop or restaurant, you’ll likely find yourself interacting with the business owner, which truly brings a unique energy to the shopping experience. This hands-on engagement facilitates a level of authenticity and personal service you just can’t find at a nationally-owned retailer.

Berkley business owners are passionate about connecting with residents, shoppers, other merchants and the community itself, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere that’s mutually supported. This personal investment is truly priceless.

Artsy Atmosphere

Downtown Berkley is a work of art — literally. The DDA launched a mural program in 2017 that allows businesses to add public art to a side of their building. Connecting businesses to local artists, these murals truly enhance the building façades and bring creative energy to everyone who visits. Today there are 13 murals with many more to come!

Hip Happenings

Known for its community events and festivities, Downtown Berkley is the place to be during the Nights Out event series. With themes such as Ladies Night Out to Couples Night Out and Moms Night Out, patrons enjoy specialty discounts and fabulous happy hour specials, as well as loads of free samples and gifts. With a Merry & Bright Shopping Night, gifts galore, Santa and more, MerriMonth is also a “must attend” family holiday tradition. Always Evolving For You

Always striving to support the city and its patrons, business owners have pivoted in response to the pandemic, creating outdoor spaces, adjusting hours and reacting to demands of new shopping and dining habits due to COVID-19.

ADA-compliant curbs and wayfinding signage are currently being added to enhance accessibility to the downtown districts even further and 12 Mile Road repaving is wrapping up, ensuring visitors a smooth ride for years to come. There’s plenty of street and lot parking in Downtown Berkley, too, and it’s always free!

See what all the buzz is about for yourself. Put Downtown Berkley on your map for your next day or night out, and you won’t be disappointed!
