Hundreds gathered in an elegantly decorated Detroit Institute of Arts for the 2018 Gala. Pink and orange fabric adorned the museum’s first floor, while patrons mingled below a ceiling full of dangling umbrellas. This year’s fundraiser celebrated the museum’s new Robert and Katherine Jacobs Asian Wing, which opened to the public the following morning. The wing has expanded beyond the Japanese gallery, which opened last year, to now include both previously owned and newly acquired Indian and Southeast Asian, Chinese, Korean and Buddhist works of art.
