Stunning outdoor art and light installations will illuminate Midtown Detroit this September with the return of DLECTRICITY which last awed audiences in 2017. Produced by Midtown Detroit, Inc. (MDI) – and supported by the DTE Energy Foundation, the event’s presenting sponsor -- the outdoor nighttime festival of art and light will take place in safe, open spaces throughout the Cultural Center District and Beacon Park, Sept. 24 and 25, 2021. DLECTRICITY is free to the public.

Dancing For The Survivors 2021

Wear your pink and join metro Detroiters and downtown Detroit workers at a lunchtime Dancing For The Survivors dance party to kick-off Breast Cancer Awareness month and generate support for The Pink Fund, a metro Detroit based nonprofit organization that helps breast cancer patients financially during their treatment. The free event will also kick off the nonprofit’s monthlong challenge for supporters to post dance videos on social media in support of The Pink Fund. Music entertainment will be featured, and food trucks will be located nearby to purchase lunch. Benefitting oncology patient programs and services at both the Walter & Marilyn Wolpin Comprehensive Breast Care Center in Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak and the Wilson Cancer Resource Center in Beaumont Hospital, Troy. Grosse Pointe Theatre will open its 74th season with Some Enchanted Evening® – the Songs of Rodgers and Hammerstein, running Oct. 15-24. The show offers a stunning collection Rodgers and Hammerstein compositions, including “Shall We Dance” from The King and I; “I’m Gonna Wash That Man Right Out of My Hair” from South Pacific; “Soliloquy” from Carousel, and many others. Don Bischoff of Macomb Township is directing the show. The multi-talented cast includes Ryan Bowie of Detroit; Danielle Caralis of Birmingham; Kimberly Elliott of Canton; Kristina Kamm Mardlin of Warren; and Zak Shugart of Troy. “This is the perfect show for our return to the stage,” said Bischoff. “The music of Rodgers and Hammerstein is familiar to everyone and is sure to make audiences smile. Our incredibly talented cast brings these songs to life, and the entire production will offer an enchanting experience for our guests.” Grosse Pointe Theatre has put several safety precautions in place. JARC at M1

Local nonprofit JARC, a metro Detroit based nonprofit agency that serves individuals with developmental disabilities, is hosting a fall fundraising event featuring thrill rides around M1’s Champion Motor Speedway, live music performances by the Mega ’80s band and other special music guests, and ‘80’s arcade games. The unique, fun and at times exhilarating event will also offer an open bar, dinner and the largest outdoor event tent in Michigan at M1’s newly renovated two-story event center. A special VIP event will feature an opportunity for VIP ticket holders to drive a Dodge Hellcat on the M1 racetrack with a 30-minute pre-drive safety session and a six-lap drive around the track following a lead car.
