Detroit DIY Panel hosted by Ash Lauryn

With so much of the country's music industry historically located in NYC and Los Angeles, Detroit musicians have always had the challenge and freedom to find their own path. The need to be resourceful and work outside the existing structure, Detroit's music ecosystem is largely defined by the drive to "do it yourself.” This roundtable contextualizes Detroit's DIY ethos of past, present, and future in a discussion with the city's most interesting electronic music label heads.    Red Bull Arts Detroit is pleased to present Omar S: Conant Gardens Party Store, an exploration of the particular interests and passions of the legendary, elusive electronic musician, DJ, and producer, Omar S. Comprised of an interactive, virtual exploration of his personal collection, which ranges from arcade games to records to vintage VHS tapes, as well as a physical installation that will host a series of limited-edition drops, the exhibition maps the esoteric artist’s personal creative landscape and the expansive forces that coalesced to form his singular style.
