In the interest of community health, this year’s show will be a virtual display online, but your ability to purchase and own over 300 works of art by more than 100 amazing local artists is as real as it gets! This year, Our Town's focus is all about supporting our local artists and aiding them during this time. SEPTEMBER 10 – SEPTEMBER 30, 2020 The Community House Supporting our local artists is a long-standing mission of The Community House and the core mission of OUR TOWN, and it has never been more important than now. After much discussion and deliberation, we believe the 35th Annual OUR TOWN Art Show & Sale must go on! Thanks to the incredible support from DeRoy Testamentary Foundation and the Bank of Ann Arbor – Birmingham, and out of an abundance of safety and caution, The Community House has decided to hold this year’s show and sale virtually online from September 10th-30th, allowing art enthusiasts the opportunity to appreciate the skills and the talents of our region’s many brilliant artists and to purchase a work of art themselves. The 35th annual juried art show includes over 300 works of art ranging from paintings, pastels, sculptures, photography, fiber works, jewelry, and mixed media, all created by our talented Michigan artists. The Glamorous Luncheon

The 2020 Glamorous Luncheon, a Glamorous Moms Foundation signature fundraising event will be held at The Townsend Hotel, Saturday, September 26, 2020 from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Admissions are $100/person for our women supporting women luncheon with the theme “Get Back Your Power.” Please join us for an afternoon of shopping (with local female entrepreneurs/vendors), a plated lunch, an inspirational speech, a fashion presentation by Michigan designers, and networking as we come together to support the Glamorous Moms Foundation and our charitable partners. Voting Matters Exhibition

Voting Matters is an interactive multimedia exhibition that illustrates the work of African Americans from pre-Reconstruction through the present day, in the development of the basic principles and values surrounding our current understanding of what it means to have the “right to vote” in democratic societies around the world. This modular exhibition consists of five parts: Pre-Reconstruction/Reconstruction (1870-1877), Post-Reconstruction (1888 - Today), The Women’s Suffrage Movement, Electoral College, and Gerrymandering.

Women Rock Science is an interactive experience to raise funds in support of Cranbrook Institute of Science’s “Service to Other’s” initiatives, and to celebrate those who are champions of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math (STEAM). The Holocaust Memorial Center is hosting “Speaking Truth to Power: The White Rose Student Anti-Nazi Resistance” featuring author Dr. Jud Newborn author and dynamic storyteller Dr. Jud Newborn. The event will take place will take place online on Thurs., Oct. 8 at 7:00 p.m. EDT, broadcast live as a Zoom webinar. Registration is required at www.holocaustcenter.org/October. During the program, Newborn will use stirring music, powerful images and suspenseful storytelling to describe how two fanatical Hitler Youth leaders transformed into the greatest heroes of the German anti-Nazi resistance. Newborn’s book, Sophie Scholl and the White Rose, is based upon extensive research and Scholl’s diary entries about her experience in the White Rose resistance. The Christian German students that comprised the White Rose resistance group wrote and distributed pamphlets about the horrific actions of the Nazis during the Holocaust, encouraging readers to stand up against the Nazis. NOSFERATU WITH LIVE MUSIC FEATURING ANDREW ALDEN ENSEMBLE Saturday, October 10 – 7:00pm SOSNICK COURTYARD F.W. Murnau’s German expressionist horror film is revered as one of the scariest Dracula adaptations ever made. The new score by the Detroit-based Andrew Alden Ensemble compliments the horror of the film and the classic story of Dracula with the sensibilities of classical chamber music and the distinct edge of rock. The music, featuring piano, synthesizers, percussion, guitar, saxophone, and electric sound design, will be performed live during a screening of the film, giving audiences a new experience with this memorable classic. The DSO does not appear on this program. The health and safety of our patrons, musicians, and staff is our top priority. Event attendees will be required to follow protocols that keep us all safe, including wearing a mask at all times, receiving a temperature check upon entry and maintaining at least six feet of distance from other people at all times.
