Teens Work Out for Free at Orangetheory Fitness-Detroit

Orangetheory Fitness-Detroit is launching its “More Life for Detroit Youth” summer program to help Detroit teens live a healthier lifestyle. From June 1-August 31, local students ages 14-18 are invited to take advantage of Orangetheory’s popular science-based workout, centered on heart-rate based interval training and led by highly trained and certified coaches, free of charge. The workouts incorporate endurance, strength, and power to generate the ‘Orange Effect’ – which keeps calories burning for up to 24 hours after a 60-minute workout. Certified fitness coaches will be on-hand to guide local high school students through an Orangetheory workout and offer options for all levels from beginner to year-round athlete. Summer Exhibitions at Cranbrook Art Museum

In June, Cranbrook Art Museum will open three exciting new summer exhibitions, including the debut of the first film by Flint-based musician Tunde Olaniran; an exhibition of works from the acclaimed Mott-Warsh Collection of contemporary art; and the first solo museum exhibition by artist Tyrrell Winston. “This suite of summer exhibitions supports our mission of shining a light on the outsized talent of Michigan-based artists and organizations who are placing Detroit and Flint center stage. With Tunde’s project, we find ourselves working in new ways to build a new kind of artistic experience; with Tyrrell’s residency we understand the inventiveness and importance of place; and with Mott-Warsh we see it all through a global lens,” said Andrew Blauvelt, Director of Cranbrook Art Museum. “All of this work underscores the importance that culture plays in enhancing our communities through artistic practice.” All exhibitions will be open to the public on June 18.

Artist Tour: Tyrrell Winston: A Tiger’s Stripes

Join artist Tyrrell Winston for a guided tour of “Tyrrell Winston: A Tiger’s Stripes” in the Main gallery. The tour will include discussions of the four bodies of work included in the exhibition, “Protection Paintings,” “Punishment Paintings,” “Net Work,” and “The Kiss,” a temporary sculpture featuring two bleachers borrowed from Cranbrook Schools campus. This tour is free with museum admission and open to the public.
