Voting Matters Exhibition

Voting Matters is an interactive multimedia exhibition that illustrates the work of African Americans from pre-Reconstruction through the present day, in the development of the basic principles and values surrounding our current understanding of what it means to have the “right to vote” in democratic societies around the world. This modular exhibition consists of five parts: Pre-Reconstruction/Reconstruction (1870-1877), Post-Reconstruction (1888 - Today), The Women’s Suffrage Movement, Electoral College, and Gerrymandering.

IWDD has joined forces with a coalition of local organizations for the 2nd annual AND 1st virtual celebration of International Women’s Day! The IWDD committee has planned a celebration honoring women from all cultural, socioeconomic and political achievements of women across the globe. This year’s theme for International Women’s Day is #ChooseToChallenge. With your help, we will continue to pursue a gender-balanced world. Join IWDD and your future new besties as we bring women together from all over the city, from all walks of life to connect and lift our voices in an effort to bring awareness and rise against daily challenges women face in the world. All proceeds from IWDD 2021 will go toward a Detroit-based non-profit organization, Fierce Empowerment. Fierce Empowerment is dedicated to providing women with tools and resources that encourage and empower them to reach their full potential as self-sufficient women through affirmations and leadership programs.
