Voting Matters Exhibition

Voting Matters is an interactive multimedia exhibition that illustrates the work of African Americans from pre-Reconstruction through the present day, in the development of the basic principles and values surrounding our current understanding of what it means to have the “right to vote” in democratic societies around the world. This modular exhibition consists of five parts: Pre-Reconstruction/Reconstruction (1870-1877), Post-Reconstruction (1888 - Today), The Women’s Suffrage Movement, Electoral College, and Gerrymandering.

Author Roohee Marshall’s Book Launch of “A GENERATION FOUND: Precious Pearls of Wisdom” on October 18 at Charles Wright Museum Contact: Adrienne D. Warren, Publicist, (313) 614-3288 On Sunday, October 18, author Roohee Marshall’s first official book launch and book signing of “A Generation Found: Precious Pearls of Wisdom” will be held in the Charles H. Wright Museum’s Latimer Outdoor Café, 315 E. Warren Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. In 2018, Roohee Marshall began on her journey to write a book honoring her elders and ancestors, and many other prized elders to recognize the value of their wisdom and she gave them the much needed voice to share with other generations. Roohee started traveling around the country conducting interviews about the unique lives of 40 African Americans and people of color, the sung and the unsung. This year, she published "A Generation Found: Precious Pearls of Wisdom,” a colorful, pictorial book which is a collection of her interviews with elders between the age of 80 to 108 who answered questions about love, raising a family, what has sustained them, challenges, accomplishments, and a precious pearl of wisdom.
