In addition to hearing Chef Sherman speak, each guest will enjoy three tastings from his award-winning cookbook The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen, followed by a book signing. About Chef Sean Sherman: Chef Sean founded a catering and food education business titled The Sioux Chef with a mission to help educate and make indigenous foods more accessible to as many communities as possible. In the process, they are re-identifying North American Cuisine and reclaiming an important culinary culture long buried and often inaccessible. His cookbook, "The Sioux Chef's Indigenous Kitchen" won a James Beard Foundation Book Award in 2018. This year, he was awarded a James Beard Foundation Leadership Award, which “spotlights the important and complex realms of sustainability, food justice, and public health.” Most recently, his team founded NATIFS, an indigenous culinary non-profit organization focused on indigenous food ways education and access. The Kindred Music & Culture Festival

The festival will take place Saturday, August 10th from 12pm-10:30pm at Roosevelt Park in Detroit and will kick-off with a free 9 am yoga class. This first-of-its kind event is a reflection of the spirited talent birthed in Detroit. The vision for the festival emerged as a response to young Black talent.   The goal for Kindred Fest is to foster a space where Black creatives can be showcased as well as celebrated for their contributions to the city. Each artist was hand selected based on their notability and prominence in Detroit’s new music scene. The lineup for this festival was meticulously constructed to produce a great time for all patrons.  This year’s festival is special as Kindred has taken a different approach to its lineup.
