April showers may be in the forecast, but this month’s lineup of Metro Detroit events is anything but gloomy

The 2021 Academy Award-Nominated Short Films will be available for at-home viewing this year through the Detroit Institute of Arts! All films will be active for 24 hours a day through April 25 via the DIA’s link for ticketing and viewing. Ticket prices $12 for each category of nominees: animation, live-action and documentary. Planning to watch all three categories? A discounted $30 pass is available.

Bloomscape is hosting virtual plant care workshops throughout the month of April! Workshops include monstera, fiddle leaf fig, succulent and cacti care. Tickets are limited to 95 attendees per workshop date. Registration is $15 and workshops will be held via Zoom.

Chantal Singer, a registered dietitian nutritionist for St. Joseph Mercy Health System’s Michigan Heart & Vascular Institute, will discuss the benefits of adding more plant-based foods to your diet during this virtual class hosted by VegMichigan and Westland Public Library. The class is free to attend and will be held via Zoom.
This virtual tour hosted by the Detroit Experience Factory will take you around the state to introduce you to some of Michigan’s most innovative and inspirational people, places and projects. Tickets can be purchased via Eventbrite with a pay-what-you-can donation.
Join The Cheese Lady for a virtual cheese board class! The class will cover basic knowledge of the selected cheeses, as well as how to assemble a well-balanced cheese board. Learn all about dessert wines, from ice wines to Port, during this virtual class hosted by Michigan by the Bottle! Registration is free and open to the first 90 registrants, but it’s recommended that you purchase one or more of the wines to get the most out of the experience. Just drop by one of their three locations to pick up your order before the event. Curbside pickup is also available.
