Rustbelt Regional Poetry Festival
June 1-2

Saturday, June 2 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Experience a two-day poetry extravaganza featuring 100 renowned poets from across the country, with an accompanying book fair. Rustbelt happens in a different Midwest city every year and was last held in Michigan in 2014. Witness Poetry Slams, workshops and more. The event is set up as a tournament for the poets, with patrons choosing one of two venues, either MOCAD’s Cafe 78 or Hopcat-Detroit’s Huma Room on the restaurant’s second floor to witness the competition. The top competitors will compete in the finals Saturday, June 2 at 7 p.m. for the title of Champion of the Rustbelt. Tickets, $10, are available online at rustbeltpoetryfestival.com/tickets/.
Teen Night MOCAD Lock-In

MOCAD’s teen council stages a “lock in” for high school students ages 13-18 to sleep in the galleries. Bring a sleeping bag, toothbrush and other sleeping gear. Also bring a friend to join in the trivia, art making, movies, prizes and more. Register at mocadetroit.org.

Visit Pewabic Pottery to see work from over 80 artists as well as Pewabic’s classic and new collection. Visitors can take a docent-led tour of the National Historic Landmark. Enjoy the biergarten in the courtyard or participate in demonstrations and workshops. This event is free and open to the public.
St. Mary’s Fine Art Fine Wine Fair

With over 100 artists and wine from a dozen countries, the St. Mary’s Art and Wine fair will not disappoint art lovers and wine connoisseurs alike. Art mediums including painting, sculpture, metalwork, ceramics, woodworking, jewelry and more will be featured and for sale. Some sculptures will be displayed in a sculpture garden along with live music and cuisine. Admission is $5 for the art fair and free for children 13 and under. Detroit Art Week
July 20-22

Determined to make Detroit a contemporary art hub, 20 venues, including MOCAD, Detroit Institute of Arts, Red Bull House of Art and other galleries, have teamed up to host a contemporary art week-long supernova. Expected to draw 5,000 guests, the event will highlight art makers in Detroit. Each venue will offer a tour of an exhibition. For more information visit detroitartweek.org.
Michael Luchs “Fictitious Character”

The Detroit-based artist, Michael Luchs, will have his work exhibited through July 29 at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. This is the largest display of his art to date and will feature his paintings and sculptures. There will also be a short film by Kathryn Brackett Luchs and Shaun Bangert called “Images” of Detroit’s Cass Corridor, which features Luchs in video and interviews.
