Aleiya Lindsey is the co-founder of Detroit Art Week (with Amani Olu) an annual celebration of contemporary art and culture in Detroit. The platform has worked galvanize the artistic community and serve as a means to find points of symbolic connection between Detroit and the outside world. The week is quickly becoming one of several must attend moments within the annual calendar and is becoming a key cog Detroit’s rapid ascendancy in the art world as an international hub for cultural exchange. The 2019 edition included 36 exhibition openings, 13 performances, 7 panel discussions, works by 150 artists from Detroit and all over the world.
Aleiya Lindsey is known as the “Queen of Culture” and sometimes the "Fresh Prince of Belle Isle." A master at connecting people and meshing the worlds of art and lifestyle, she started her career as an artist liaison and gallery manager at Red Bull House of Art. In 2014 she helped launch the creative project turned restaurant, Antietam. In her role as maître d', Lindsey created a home for Detroit's cultural community and visiting arts professionals interested in casual fine-dining. Two years later she joined Standby, a hip cocktail bar hidden in an alleyway, featuring public works by some of today's most important artists. Lindsey quickly established Standby as the sexiest place to be any night of the week. In 2018, she transitioned to Olu & Company, a marketing consultancy for individuals, businesses, and organizations in the arts. A natural at media relations, she recently secured press coverage for clients in the New Yorker, Vogue, and W, among other coveted publications. Alongside her role at Olu & Company, she manages Detroit Art Week. By co-founding Detroit Art Week, Lindsey has become one of several individuals who is helping contextualize the dynamic and diverse creative community that is percolating in the Metro Detroit for people coming to visit the city and for citizens within the community. As a Detroit-native, she has a vested interest providing a robust platform creatives in Detroit to be recognized, celebrated and thrive at the highest level. Her impact has been proactive and exudes the Metro Detroit pride that makes the community so unique and special.
