My fiancé, Kayla, started Detroit's Future Is Female with virtually $0 and just a dream of empowering girls and women. She had a lot of doors slammed in her face when she first presented the idea. When A Beautiful Me, a local non-profit that works proactively to grow our local youth to be confident young ladies, asked for a meeting, Kayla had no idea what to expect. From that meeting forward, Kayla has been a dedicated partner donating 10% of every sale from the Detroit's Future Is Female collection to A Beautiful Me to support their shared mission. In addition, Kayla has hosted drives benefiting Alternatives For Girls and is in the process of creating annual benefit dinners as well to continue her mission in feminist philanthropy. I know how important this all is to her. Kayla grew up in rural Michigan where her school offered little to help support her dreams of being an artist and entrepreneur. She wants to ensure that no girl or women feels unsupported on her journey, whatever it may be.
• Continually donated 10% of all sales to local nonprofits supporting girls + women in the community
• Hosted a pad, tampon and new bra drives donating over 60 boxes of feminine product to Alternatives for Girls
• Donated merchandise to silent auctions through Detroit Blows, Detroit Axe, etc. to benefit nonprofits including A Beautiful Me, First Step, and more..
• Donated a portion of sales to cancer-focused nonprofits
In addition to the above passion projects, Kayla is working on growing Detroit's Future Is Female beyond Detroit by introducing Portland's Future Is Female in partnership with Fighting Pretty and Dress for Success to continue her philanthropic mission on the other side of the country. She hopes to launch the brand in several cities across the country!
