The Detroit RiverFront Conservancy’s eighth annual fundraiser, Shimmer on the River, took over the Detroit RiverWalk on June 21. The fundraiser featured ’60s-themed dining, live music, and free carnival activities. The event also honored Karen and Matthew Cullen with the 2018 Shimmer Award for their dedicated work toward revitalizing the riverfront. The Cullens donated $4.1 million to support the redevelopment of the riverfront, and Rivard Plaza will be renamed Cullen Plaza in their honor. The funds raised will continue to support the conservancy’s programs as well as upkeep of the Dequindre Cut and Detroit RiverWalk.
