Michigan ADA 30 Virtual Events

Various event times
From virtual dances and poetry jams to discussions on topics surrounding the disabled community, join Michigan ADA 30 for a variety of virtual events all September long. There is no cost to participate but you must register for each event on Eventbrite to retrieve a password for access.

Gibraltar Bay Alpaca Farm

Open to visitors Wednesdays through Sundays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Gibraltar Bay Alpaca Farm is the perfect place for some family fun. Pet some cute and fuzzy alpacas and check out the gift shop full of items made of aplaca fur. There is no charge to visit but donations, used to benefit the animals, are appreciated.

At Home with Literati: Fredrik Backman

Looking to add a new book to your reading list this month? Tune in to watch Fredrik Backman chat about his latest novel, Anxious People, with host April Baer on Michigan Radio’s “Stateside.” Tickets are $30 and include a hard copy of the book.

The Detroit SlutWalk

Starts at Palmer Park, 910 Merrill Plaisance Street, Detroit
March in solidarity with all communities affected by sexual assault while enjoying performances by Kai Mills and Delta Phi Delta Detroit, along with a speech from keynote speaker Nicole Denson. Masks are mandatory and social distancing practices will be enforced to ensure safety for all attendees.

Catch a live horse race every weekend in September at the Northville Downs. Check out the track on the 11th or 12th or visit the facility’s calendar for a more specific breakdown of the race schedule. Masks are required and cash is a must for placing bets!

Virtual Lansing Jazzfest

At approximately 5:00 p.m. each day
If you’re a music lover, this week-long jazz experience is the perfect opportunity to let loose. With livestreamed performances from Lansing, as well as cities across the U.S., Europe and South America, this virtual festival brings together artists from all over the world. Video highlights, music workshops, meet-and-greets and activities for kids will also be available.

The Eyebrows – Livestream Concert

7:00 p.m.
Check out a livestreamed performance from North Carolina-based power-pop band The Eyebrows, whose latest album was mastered and pressed in Detroit. The event, which will be streamed on Facebook, offers the perfect opportunity to check out an underground group with local ties.

This 90-minute workshop aims to break boundaries by encouraging women and minorities to speak up about their achievements and successes. Through discussion and activities, you’ll gain confidence and learn self-promotion techniques and see just how remarkable you truly are.

Curious about plant-based diets? Join VegMichigan and the Milford Pubilc Library for a virtual presentation by humane educator Kim Korona. From the diet’s health benefits as well as effects on animals and the environment, Kim breaks down everything you need to know about going plant-based.

Burger Battle Detroit 2020

Head to the Eastern Market to watch Metro Detroit’s best chefs compete head-to-head for the “best burger” title. Watch onsite as they grind their own meat, grill it up and present it to be judged by a panel. Proper social distancing guidelines will be in place.
